2024 SOUNZ Contemporary Award
Te Tohu Auaha

Entries are now open for the 2024 SOUNZ Contemporary Award | Te Tohu Auaha

The purpose of the award is to recognize and reward creativity, excellence and inspiration in music composition by a New Zealander. The award, consisting of a trophy and cash prize of $3000, has been presented at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards since 1998.

Composers who are members of APRA and who are residents or citizens of New Zealand are invited to enter up to two works. The work(s) must have been publicly performed, presented or professionally recorded for the first time between 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024.

Works must be original, and can be for solo, chamber, ensemble, choral, opera, orchestral, sonic art, taonga pūoro or a combination of any of these, including works in Te Reo Māori (there is no restriction on duration).

SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music convenes a jury to select three finalists whose entry shows outstanding compositional excellence and inspiration. The winning work should be able to be promoted here and overseas as an outstanding example of composition.

Entries close on 15 May 2024.
